I’ve just read a concise history of Hooton Pagnell…
I’ve just read a concise history of Hooton Pagnell, Doncaster, South Yorkshire this morning for a case study. It is a gripping little spot, the land surrounding which seeming to have changed hands in the fifteenth century in a number of captivating ways. So captivating, in fact, that I can’t even find a link to the chief book in the field of Hooton-Pagnell-themed fieldology, Hooton Pagnell: The Agricultural Evolution of a Yorkshire Village. Still, that’s the thing about the libraries of Oxford: two guys (one Arthur G. Ruston and one Denis Whitney) cared enough about the land rights of this little burg over the last five hundred years that they wrote a hefty book about them. That’s inspirational, right?
