Legitimate conquests
Opinio Juris has a really interesting post on territorial conquests that have received the international community’s imprimatur since 1945. Like everything in the area of global norms, clearcut rules about what is right and wrong quickly dash themselves on the fuzzy cases (the Six Days’ War, for instance), but the counterexamples are fascinating.
