OS X Leopard is here
…And now what? To be honest, I’m disenchanted with all but a few of the “300 new features.” Core animation will look nice, but who knows when third party developers will start implementing it, or whether my Macbook will be able to handle it once they do. Time Machine is a nice idea on paper (and on Youtube), but for the price of a fast external hard drive and my ‘book’s one remaining USB slot, I’d rather just keep paying Mozy to handle my incremental, offsite backups for me. Finder’s new coverflow setup looks fun, but again, iTunes chokes on shuffling through my music library as-is, and that’s with an extra gig of RAM.
Obviously, I’ve gotta upgrade, eventually. But I think I’ll hold off for a spell. I’ve got no time now, and I don’t dare do it over winter break, since one false move and I’ve lost all my files right before January’s exams. All in all, Leopard looks to be more trouble than it’s worth, even with a discount.
