Huh, always wondered that. It finally occurred to me tonight to ask Google the story behind the obnoxious fade-in in the Smiths’ “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.” If you’ve heard the song, you know what I’m talking about. Turns out, it might have been intended to prevent the master take from leaking to radio. Hmm… analog rights management?
