Education

Harvard Law School

J.D.

I am Supreme Court co-chair of the Harvard Law Review and a former member of the Journal of Law and Technology. I work as a research assistant for Prof. Jonathan Zittrain and volunteer with the HLS chapter of Jocelyn Benson’s campaign for secretary of state. In my first year, I co-chaired a committee for the HLS Public Interest Auction.

University of Michigan

B.A.

My undergraduate education culminated in writing a senior thesis, “The Other Institutions: Explaining Informal International Cooperation,” which received high honors. I received several awards for research and involvement earlier in my undergraduate years.

Experience

Open Rights Group

Intern

My primary project during my summer with the Open Rights Group was preparing a position paper on network neutrality, a complex issue in consumer broadband Internet access. The paper synthesized British and European Union law on competition, telecommunications, and consumer protections for a non-legal audience. In addition, I responded to developments in several areas affecting consumers online, including file-sharing and copyright term extension.

Open Net Initiative

Research Assistant

I contacted dozens of nations’ Washington, D.C. embassies for information on their domestic Internet access policies. I also edited and revised the project’s findings for publication.

Woodrow Wilson International Center

Research Intern

My chief focus while at the Center was a comparative legal project of my own design on global regulation of radio-frequency identification (RFID) and nanotechnology. I also drafted op/ed pieces and notes to appear in national newspapers and journals.

Campus Computing Sites

Consultant

My campus job as an undergraduate involved the upkeep 1700 computers and 140 printers in sites across Ann Arbor. I independently adapted to problems arising across campus using a variety of tools, coordinated the responses of other team members, and trained several new employees.

Institute for Social Research

Research Associate

Under the direction of a visiting member of the faculty, I used online and offline sources to find and tabulate data on state-supported terrorism.
