As an avid Iron and Wine listener and finger picker, I have found the holy grail! This song is one that I know a ton of you have wanted to play. This is probably the most tab out there. I don't know what you have read or seen in the past, but this is probably most accurate. I rated this song advanced because it requires much finger picking skill accuracy, plus a natural groove and rhythm. It's also VERY difficult to sing over. And for the record, if there are ever notes in parentheses, they are optional; I think makes it a little easier to flow from one part to the next without sounding wrong. Sam Beam does 4 different finger picking parts: The Pickup (First 3 Intervals) Fingering: e---------| B--/3-1-0-| Index, Middle, or Ring Finger [I think Middle is Easiest] G---0-----| D--/4-2-0-| Thumb A---------| E---------| (when doing this little riff, the Open G isn't necessary) and then the 3 separate versions of the same thing: ==============Part 1============ "Cmaj Shape" Chord: Cmaj (pinky on 3rd fret of e String) Fingering: T I T M R e------------3------------| B--------0h1----/3-1-0----| G----0-----------0--------| D------2--------/4-2-0----| A--3----------------------| E-------------------------| ==========Part 2============= "Em Shape" Chord: Em Fingering: *RM= Ring or Middle Finger T T *RM T e-----------0----------------| B------------------/3-1-0----| G-------------------0--------| D--(2)--2------2---/4-2-0----| A--(2)-----------------------| E---0------------------------| ==========Part 3========= "Alternate Cmaj Shape" (This one is the hardest) Fingers: T I R M e--------3p0----------------| B-------------1---/3-1-0----| G-----0------------0--------| D------------(2)---/4-2-0---| A--3------------------------| E---------------------------| Okay, now this is the most difficult part of all---playing them in order. You start out with the intro, and then play the parts in this order: (Pickup)...then 1-2-1-2-| 3-2-1-2-| 1-2-3-2-| 1-2-1-2-| Boy with a coin he found in the weeds with bullets and pages of trade magazines close to a car THAT flipped on the turn when God left the ground to circle the world Hey--- Oh---- Girl with a bird she found in the snow that flew up her gown, and that's how she knows that God made her eyes for crying at birth then left the ground to circle the earth Hey--- Oh---- Boy with a coin he crammed in his jeans then making a wish, and tossed in the sea then walked to a town that all of us burned when God left the ground to circle the world Hey--- Oh---- Hey--- Oh---- Great tab! Just a few things though... The biggest thing that's wrong is the Chorus-like break. It sounds very different to what's been tabbed: It goes like: 1-3-2-2 1-3-2-2 then changes to: 1-2-3-2 1-2-3-2 (At least play the chorus right. If you want to play exactly to the studio vers. order see below:) Intro (As was tabbed) Verse #1: (boy with a...) 3-2-1-2 (close to a...) 1-2-1-2 Hey-Yeah Break #1 goes: 1-2-3-2 1-2-1-2- Verse #2 goes: (Girl with a... 3-2-1-2 (That God made....) 1-2-3-2 Chorus (As above) Hey-Yeah Break #2 goes: 1-2-3-2 3-2-1-2 Verse #3 goes: (boy with a...) 1-2-1-2 (walked to a town...) 3-2-1-2 Very extended Hey-Yeah Break #3 goes: 1-2-1-2 3-2-1-2 1-2-3-2 1-2-3-2 1-2-3-2 3-2-1-2 Chorus (As above) Yeah... I just wasted 20 minutes of my life on this.
